NeXTSTEP 1.0
Screen Shots
NeXTSTEP Magneto-Optical Disk
NeXTSTEP 0.8 and 0.9 were shipped with early NeXT hardware. But like any "1.0" release, it gives the perception of a completed, supported product.

NeXTSTEP 1.0 Desktop
The final official 1.0 release does not look much different from 0.9, but it does feel a little more solid.

As a commercial product, it was not intended to compete with Apple or the home computer market. Instead NeXT was aimed at the workstation market and universities.

NeXTSTEP 1.0 Prefs Panel
The Preferences panel has several new features. First, it has an option to move the menu elsewhere on the screen.
The calendar has a time zone selection where the time zones are clickable.

NeXTSTEP 1.0 Applications
NeXTSTEP bundles a large media library, including the works of Shakespeare and the Websters dictionary. This all fits on a single magneto-optical disk.

NeXTSTEP 1.0 NetInfo
Netinfo has been enhanced to use a column view to navigate the configuration hierarchy. A new User Manager is included, as well as additional printing tools.

NeXTSTEP 1.0 Kill Application
The Workspace Manager menu now includes a "Kill Application" item.  If an application freezes, you drag the desktop or dock icon to the Kill window, and it will ask if you want to terminate it.

The way the Kill window works makes it feel like a last minute afterthought. Specifically, if a frozen application covers the entire desktop or screen, you may not be able to drag the application icon to the Kill window.

NeXTSTEP 1.0 Games
NeXTSTEP 1.0 comes with a large number of additional demo application, with such exciting titles as "RealTime Algebra"!

NeXTSTEP 1.0 Shutting Down
Shutting down NeXTSTEP

In conclusion, 1.0 seems quite solid, as one would expect from a full release, and does a decent job of hiding most of the Unix-isms.
